Bronx Bombers home run alert A-Rod 3K
Keeping tabs on every home run for the New York Yankees this season. There were plenty of Friday night fireworks as the Yanks mauled Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers, 7-2. Alex Rodriguez, Didi Gregorius and Brett Gardner all provided free souvenirs to the Bronx Faithful.

A-Rod's big fly in the first frame, jumped the Bombers off the mat. Driving a first pitch fastball from Verlander to right, A-Rod gave the Pinstripes a 1-0 edge.

With the drive, A-Rod became the 29th player in major-league baseball history to reach the 3,000 hit plateau. Rodriguez also joins Derek Jeter and Wade Boggs as the only three members of the club to reach the mark via home run.

Plus, Rodriguez became the sixth Yankee to reach the milestone and the second along with Jeter, to do it in Pinstripes. It was 73 years to the day when Paul Waner notched 3,000 hits.

On the season, A-Rod has 13 home runs, 667 for his career and 322 with New York.
An inning later, with the Yanks trailing 2-1, Gregorius lifted a solo shot to right, tying the contest off a 1-2 fastball from Verlander. It was home run number three on the year for Didi and number 16 of his career.

Fast forward to the fifth, Gardner rocked a two-run torpedo to right-center, breaking the stalemate and putting the Bombers up by two, at 4-2. It was the second home run in as many contests for Gardner, his seventh of the season, off a 1-1 curve from Verlander. Gardner has 47 round trippers on his career.
