More Bryce Harper to the Yankees speculation. This time from a Yankee
We've all heard about, dreamt about, and drooled about the possibility of Bryce Harper coming to the Yankees when he hits free agency. Many are expecting him to sign the first $500 million contract in baseball history, with the Yanks being the ones handing it to him. But now we have even more fuel for the fire, this time from Chasen Shreve. Shreve is also from Las Vegas, played against Harper in high school, and was his teammate in 2010 at the College of Southern Nevada. So he has a bit of insight on the topic.
"Yeah, we're friends, for sure," Shreve said. "I wouldn't be surprised if Bryce stayed in Washington, too."
Friends for sure. They golf together during the offseason, work out together and sometimes grab a bite. During one such instance last winter, Shreve offered up a little insider info Yankee fans won't be happy with.
"I know Bryce likes it in DC a lot. He was actually talking in the offseason about moving there year-round, so I know he likes it a lot. I don't know what he would do though and I don't know what the Yankees have in mind."
Harper is a Scott Boras guy, and Boras guys hit the open market quite frequently. But, after fellow Boras guy and Nat Stephen Strasburg signed a 7 year, $175 million dollar extension on Monday, does that change things? You can't expect the Nationals to simply role over and let arguably the best player in the league get away. They will do everything in their power to keep him in the nation's capital. Does the Strasburg extension pave the way for a Harper deal? Or maybe Shreve campaigns for the superstar should he still be with the Yanks when the time comes?
"Maybe," Shreve said with a smile. "It would be great to see him here. It would be fun to be his teammate again, for sure. Geez, he had over 40 homers last year. You never know what people are going to do somewhere else, but him being left-handed and playing in Yankee Stadium? That can't be bad. Yeah, I think he'd do well here!"
