Instead of Luis Cessa making the start, Caleb Smith will get the ball in the series finale against the Mariners. This will be the first Major League start for the 25-year-old. Smith made his Major League debut on July 17 against the Minnesota Twins. In three innings of work, the southpaw allowed just two runs on four hits. He picked up the loss in the game, but overall had a solid performance on the mound. Prior to his call-up to the Big Leagues, Smith was part of the starting rotation for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 16 games (15 starts), he posted an 8-0 record with a 2.07 ERA. With the Yankees having a void in their starting rotation, Smith will have an opportunity to show what he's capable of. If he pitches well, it's possible he can earn a spot in the rotation for the time being. The Yankees wrap up their four-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon. With a win, the Bronx Bombers would capture their first series win since they swept the Baltimore Orioles from June 9-11.
