CC wins fifth straight start in Yankees’ victory
BRONX, N.Y. – CC Sabathia dazzled in eight shut out innings for the New York Yankees on Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox. The big lefty also struck out five batters and did not issue a single walk in the Yankees’ 8-0 victory. After posting a 1.47 ERA in his first three starts of the season, Sabathia relapsed and had a 9.58 ERA in his next four. Following those starts, Sabathia has been nothing short of sensational. Including his start on Wednesday night, he now has a 1.11 ERA in his last five starts and is sitting at 7-2 on the season.

The Yankees hounded Sabathia’s opposition, Rick Porcello, all night long. Porcello lasted 6.1 innings but allowed five earned runs and two home runs. Porcello allowed homers to Didi Gregorius and Chris Carter, giving the Yankees an early 5-0 lead. Carter, who has struggled for the most of the season, shined in his performance on Wednesday night. The first baseman finished 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in. The only Red Sox hitter to have any sort of success against Sabathia was Josh Rutledge, who doubled and tripled off of the lefty pitcher. With the victory, the Yankees improved to 33-23 on the season and moved two games ahead of the second place Red Sox. Regardless of the result on Thursday night, the Yankees will remain in first place at the end of this three game series. Michael Pineda will try to capture a series victory for the Yankees when he takes on David Price. Pineda struggled in his last outing, allowing five earned runs in only five innings of work.
