Derek Jeter to attend Spring Training?
Could we see The Captain back in pinstripes this spring? No, it won't be as an active player. But it's possible that Derek Jeter becomes a guest instructor down in Tampa. Bryan Hoch mentioned on his Yankees.com podcast that he ran into Hannah Davis in Hawaii and got to talking about Jeets. "We talked to her real quick about Jeter, and asked how he's doing," Hoch said. "Hopefully we'll see Jeter at some point in Spring Training. I think that he wanted to take that year off, I think now that year has passed and maybe he'll drop by Spring Training, for a day or maybe as a guest instructor." Doesn't sound like anything is set in stone, but I'm sensing that Hoch got the impression from Davis that Jeter might be visible at the Yankees' complex. I'd be a bit surprised to see Jeter as a guest instructor. He seems like the kind of guy that if he can't play for real, then he doesn't want anything to do with being near a baseball field. His presence would be a great asset to camp, especially with the young, highly touted prospects. I'm sure they'll have no problem digging up an extra number two jersey.
