Game 149: Molina Walks Off On Former Team
Former Yankee backup catcher, Jose Molina, had one at bat in tonight's game and made it count as he hit the walk-off single in the Yankees 5-4 loss to open the series in Toronto.
The Yankees lineup struggled with Toronto starter Dustin McGowan as the 1-3 hitters and 7-9 hitters went a combined 0 for 19 with just 2 walks. When that much of your lineup is struggling to make anything happen, offense will be hard to come by. The 4-6 hitters were the entire offense as Nick Swisher doubled in a run and Eric Chavez hit a two-run home run in a three-run 4th inning. Nick Swisher drove in one more run later in the 6th but that was all the offense the Yankees could get and it would normally be enough with CC Sabathia on the mound.
CC Sabathia continues to have a habit of giving up a large number of hits while stranding many of them too. Tonight he only managed to go 5.2 innings with a 120 pitch count. He gave up 10 hits and walked 4 while giving up 4 runs. After Sabathia walked Edwin Encarnacion to load the bases, Adam Lind hit a bases-clearing double. Rafael Soriano had a perfect 7th inning by striking out the side and David Robertson continued his Houdini act escaping a bases-loaded situation. Cory Wade surrendered the game-winning hit yet again after giving up the walk-off home run to Seattle's Luis Rodriguez in the last game on Wednesday.
