Gleyber Torres to undergo season-ending Tommy John Surgery
As if this past week could not get any worse for the Yankees, who are currently in the midst of a six-game losing streak, the organization is now dealing with the loss of their No. 1 ranked prospect, Gleyber Torres. The 21-year-old has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, and will miss the remainder of the 2017 season. Torres is expected to be ready for spring training in 2018.

Torres suffered the injury on an ugly slide into home during the Railriders' game on Saturday. Torres immediately grabbed his elbow in pain, and ultimately left the field under his own power. He was initially diagnosed with a hyper-extended elbow, and X-Rays were negative. Upon further evaluation and tests from team doctor, Christopher Ahmad, it was determined that Torres had torn his UCL. The good news is that Torres hurt his left elbow and he isn't a pitcher, and he should be 100 percent healthy for next season. The bad news is that the Yankees were hoping to promote Torres, who was hitting .309/.406/.457 with two homers and 16 RBI in 23 games in Triple-A, perhaps as early as next month. The first place Yankees have now lost their No. 1 pitching and hitting prospects to Tommy John surgery this season. In the words of Joe Girardi, "it's not what you want."
