Gray stifles O's as Yankees sweep doubleheader
BALTIMORE -- After almost a month since losing spot in the rotation, Sonny Gray looks as if he has finally turned a corner, as he led the Yankees to a win in the nightcap, 5-1, over Baltimore.
"Pickles," as it said on his jersey, was more aggressive tonight as he and catcher Austin Romine attacked hitters all night with stuff in the strike zone. In the end, it resulted in one of Gray's best starts of the year, with him going 6 1/3 innings while giving up just three hits and striking out seven O's.
As for the offense, the Yankees had 12 hits and got contributions from all over. Gray's battery mate, Ro, had three hits and three runs on the night, with his solo homer in the ninth providing some much needed insurance for the team.
The rest of the scoring was produced early in the game with Aaron Hicks plating a run in the first and two more runs crossing the plate in the second off of Baltimore starter Andrew Cashner.

Giancarlo Stanton then added an RBI to his name with a booming RBI-single off the wall in right field to make it 4-0, New York.
Aaron Boone turned to Tommy Kahnle in the ninth to close it out but he gave up three hits and a run, before giving way to Dellin Betances.
"El Acido" then struckout the only batter he faced to end the game and earn his first save of the season.
In the ballgame, Gleyber Torres made some excellent plays at shortstop to rob the Orioles of hits. He also seems to be coming out of the slump he's been in with a 4 for 7 showing in today's twin bill to follow the two RBIs he had yesterday.

Now, New York is now just seven games back of the division leading Red Sox. With still about a month to go, anything is still a possibility.
With Luis Severino on the mound tomorrow, the Yankees will be looking to sweep Dylan Bundy and the Orioles.
Current Yankees Record: 82-47
