Inside the Astros cheating scandal
Some fans still want blood from the Astros. Some don't care anymore and just want the Yankees to win a World Series, no matter who they beat en route. Others want to forget what Houston did in 2017 (and 2018 and 2019). No matter where you fall, you're going to want to check out this podcast with Andy Martino of SNY, who wrote a new book titled 'Cheated: The Inside Story Of The Astros Scandal And A Colorful History Of Sign Stealing.'
The book isn't just about what the Astros did to cheat. It's more about how the key players involved -- AJ Hinch, Alex Cora, Carlos Beltran and Jeff Lunhow -- got to the point in their careers where they were banging a trash can to alert hitters what pitch was coming. Martino's book discusses the history of sign stealing in baseball and how the sport got to where it is today. It also touches on how the Yankees entered a gray area in 2014-17 with video replay and how their suspicions of what the Astros were doing, especially in the 2019 ALCS, went deep.
It was a great read and I definitely recommend it for any baseball fan interested in the history of the sport and the biggest scandal in baseball since steroids.
