Instant Reaction: The Yankees' walk off momentum did not show up
Gut Reaction
That should be Tyler Clippard's last straw but unfortunately, he will probably get one or two more chances. https://twitter.com/Jomboy_/status/878708335863709696
First & Foremost: RIP Chris Carter

Luis Cessa Did What He Could
Cessa gave us 5 innings of 3 run ball. We need our pitchers to go deeper into games. We need them to hand the ball straight to Betances. Cessa isn't going to be able to do that for us. He is a stop gap until CC gets healthy again, and his job is to not blow games. He didn't blow this one. He kept us in it as best he could. At times, he looked pretty dominant too. Seven of the first eight outs came via strikeout. I don't hold him responsible for this game at all.
The Offense Didn't Show Up
Much like Cessa, I can't really get down on this offense. They take the blame for this loss sure, but they have had too many spectacular performances for me to get mad at them for a couple bad ones. Those will happen. Every team goes through slides. I have no doubts that this lineup will continue to have more big games than lousy games as the season continues. We still haven't gotten shut out. I know that means nothing in the grand scheme of things but it's a fun little game within the game going on this season.
Tyler Clippard is Lost
When we have family barbecue we organize a big whiffle ball game. My dad likes to make the rule that everyone has to pitch at least one inning. That way it's fair and everyone gets involved in the game. There is always one kid who doesn't know how to pitch and wants no business being on the mound. He's up there throwing lollipops, trying to hide his embarrassment and disdain of the situation. The hitters are having no fun because it's not a challenge and the pitcher is having no fun because he sucks and he's mortified. That's what Tyler Clippard was tonight. You could feel his lack of confidence through your TV screen. He couldn't locate. He couldn't keep the ball down. Romine was slamming his glove on the dirt as a visual reminder to keep the ball low and Tyler was just standing there saying "I'm trying!". It's gotten worse. Part of me hopes Joe and Cash meet today and say, 'well we just DFA'd Carter, might as well DFA Clip as well.' Kind of like how it's always easier to grab the second cookie than the first when on a diet. In reality, he will be moved further down the pecking order to no leverage, garbage time innings. If he can't fix himself there then he's doomed.
What We Need Tomorrow
Pineda to be lights out.
Tyler Austin to get a hit.
Clippard to get some rest.
A win.
