Jeter back on the field

Derek Jeter is still scheduled to meet with his surgeon this week in Charlotte, NC as part of a follow up examination on his injured ankle, but he's already back on the field. Jeter took 25 dry-swings and fielded grounders right at him on Monday in Tampa, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. This represents a step in the right direction for the Captain, who had been limited to just throwing, cardio exercises and physical therapy. Expect Jeter to increase his baseball activities as long as his ankle responds well and his surgeon gives clearance. Jeter will undergo a CT scan during his visit with his surgeon, and hopes to be given the go-ahead to begin running. After setting a deadline to come back and trying to rush his rehab, Jeter re-injured his ankle. Now, the Yankees and the veteran shortstop have refused to put a timetable on a return, saying that they expect him to contribute after the All-Star break. With a weakened ankle and a body set to turn 39 years old in 16 days, it's anyone's guess when we'll see Jeter back in the Bronx. To put things in perspective, GM Brian Cashman said last week that Alex Rodriguez's rehab is ahead of Jeter's; A-Rod, barring suspension, is due back around mid-season.
