According to Donnie Collins of The Scranton Times-Tribune, Nestor Cortes will start in place of Montgomery for the RailRiders. The plan is for Montgomery to start for the big league club in the series finale against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday afternoon. No official announcement has been made at this time. Embed from Getty Images Sweeny Murti of WFAN suggested that Montgomery could help shape the Yankees rotation for their pivotal upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox. If Montgomery makes a spot-start tomorrow, the rotation would be pushed back a day. By following this plan, the Yankees rotation for the Red Sox series would be as follows: Thursday, Aug. 31- CC Sabathia Friday, Sept. 1- Sonny Gray Saturday, Sept. 2- Masahiro Tanaka Sunday, Sept. 3- Luis Severino Instead of Sabathia pitching against the Indians, this plan would allow the veteran left-hander to start the series opener against the Red Sox. It would also give each starter an extra days' rest, which could be beneficial for the rotation down the stretch. With the American League East Division on the line, this upcoming series is crucial for the Yankees. The Yankees must find a way to win this series, as this is the final time the two clubs will match up this season.
