LeMahieu, Hicks power Yankees to win over Boston
NEW YORK -- The Yankees just keep finding ways to win. With a thrilling 4-1 win over the Red Sox, the Bombers pushed the defending champions to 8 1/2 games back of first place in the American League East.
DJ LeMahieu starred for New York yet again, with a two-hit effort that featured a game-tying RBI-double in the third and an opposite field blast off Chris Sale in the fifth inning.
On the other hand, Aaron Hicks had the go-ahead hit, also in the third inning, swatting a RBI-single to left field to drive in both LeMahieu and Brett Gardner.
The four runs off Sale were more than enough for J.A. Happ, who earned the win after giving his team five strong innings and giving up just one run.
The lone run off of him was a Rafael Devers solo home run in the second inning.
One of the biggest moments of the game came in the fifth inning, when Boston had two men and two outs, with Andrew Benintendi at the plate.
With Happ beginning to show signs of a struggle, Gary Sanchez connected with Gleyber Torres for a tremendous pick-off of Eduardo Nunez at second base.

For the final four innings, Aaron Boone called on his bullpen to protect the lead. The quartet of Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, Zack Britton, and Aroldis Chapman then all delivered scoreless innings, with the latter earning his 16th save of the season.
Domingo German will face Rick Porcello in the second game of this three-game series, tomorrow at 7:15 ET.
Current Yankees Record: 37-19
