Luis Severino reflects on journey to realizing his Yankee dream
As he continues to establish himself as not only the “ace” of the Yankees staff, but also as a legitimate American League CY Young contender, Luis Severino is living out his childhood dream. Two days after besting Chris Sale and dominating the Red Sox on the national stage…again, the 23-year-old All Star took some time to reflect on his dream season and the journey he took to arrive in the only place he ever wanted to be… The Bronx. In his post via the Players Tribune, Severino documents many childhood moments that fueled his desire to wear the pinstripes, none bigger than when his father bought him his very first Yankees hat. Severino recounts two of the more important things his father did for him, “when I was 10 or 11, he sat me down and went over how to throw a curveball.” “The other big thing that my dad did for me was buy me my first Yankees hat… I’ll never forget that day.” Beginning the 2017 season competing for a spot in the back end of the rotation after struggling through 2016, Severino is firmly positioning himself to be the homegrown frontline “ace” the Yankees have been searching for for years. And according to Sevy, it’s a great feeling. “The best feeling in the world is waking up in the morning and remembering that you’re a New York Yankee."
“There was just something about that uniform ... and that logo.”
