Luis Severino to start on Wednesday
Over the weekend, Joe Girardi considered tinkering with the starting rotation, which included pushing Luis Severino back to avoid facing the Minnesota Twins. However, Girardi decided against it and will allow Severino to pitch in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon. The Yankees want Severino's spot to come up in the rotation in case the team is still in contention for the AL East crown.
Severino could start Wed, then Tuesday and next Sunday. If division title is still in play, Yankees want him available for that final game.

The Yankees have 12 games to go this season, but the Red Sox have a three game lead entering play on Tuesday night. Will the Yankees diminish the division lead, or will the Baltimore Orioles lose in extras to the Red Sox...again? Dellin Betances, a late-inning guy? Let's face it: Dellin Betances hasn't looked particularly sharp in September. On Monday night, he was pulled out of the eighth inning after loading the bases. When the Yankees had their issues with Aroldis Chapman, they pulled the closer from his role and put him in low leverage situations to work out the kinks. Unfortunately, Betances won't get that treatment. Girardi will continue to run Betances out there, because he says there isn't enough games to demote and promote him.
Girardi still considers Betances a late-innings guy and said, "We just gotta get him right." Not much time to demote and then promote him.

Really? In the middle of a Wild Card and potential division race? He single-handedly almost put the Yankees in a four-game hole in the division on Monday night. If not for Chapman, the Yankees would have to gain four games with only 12 to play. There's no patience to "get Betances right". Chad Green and David Robertson are in the pen, right? Use them. Preferably not when the Yankees are up 7-0. Matt Holliday sits...again. Matt Holliday was on the bench during Monday's 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. But fans were surprised that Holliday was once again on the bench for Tuesday night's game. Was Holliday all right? Yes. In fact he's not in the lineup because he hits right-handed. Girardi wanted a lineup full of left-handed hitters. Holliday will play in Wednesday's finale.
