Miguel Andujar okay after getting hit in chest
The Yankees avoided disaster Monday afternoon. Leading off the second inning of their final exhibition game of the spring, Miguel Andujar was plunked in the chest with an 87 mile per hour cutter by starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez. Andujar immediately reacted by jumping back and throwing his arms up. Aaron Boone and Steve Donahue came out to check on him, deemed him okay, and he stayed in to run the bases.
Andujar was pulled following the end of that half inning, but Boone insists he is okay. “He just got hit in the pec there. It was nothing.”
After getting nothing but bad news regarding injuries all spring, it was a huge sigh of relief to see that Andujar was okay. Didi Gregorius, Dellin Betances, CC Sabathia, Luis Severino, and Aaron Hicks are all starting the year on the injured list. Adding Andujar to that group would have been a devastating blow to the lineup this early in the year.
Yankee fans can look forward to seeing Andujar’s name penciled into the opening day lineup on Thursday at 1:05 PM against the Orioles in the Bronx.
