Rob Thomson to interview for Phillies bench coach position

Rob Thomson is currently one of five candidates to replace Joe Girardi as Yankees' manager. However, it seems likely that if Thomson doesn't get the job, he'll take his talents elsewhere. According to Sweeny Murti, Thomson has an interview lined up on Wednesday with the Philadelphia Phillies for the bench coach position. Even though Thomson is interviewing with other ball clubs, the Yankees themselves haven't indicated the next step in their process.

The Yankees began their managerial search after parting ways with Girardi following the Yankees elimination from the American League Championship Series. Along with Thomson, Aaron Boone, Eric Wedge, Hensley Meulens, and Chris Woodward are all candidates for the position. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman indicated the Yankees did not need to have a manager prior to the Winter Meetings, which begins on December 10 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. He also added he wouldn't be worried if the organization still doesn't have a manager in place by Christmas or New Year's Day.
