Yankees announce starters for games 1-4 of ALCS
The ALCS starts Friday at 8:00pm with the Yankees traveling to Houston to take on Dallas Keuchel and the Astros. The Yanks announced today who will get the ball for games one, two, three and four.
Masahiro Tanaka will take the mound to start things off Friday night. Tanaka pitched a gem in game three against the Indians on Sunday. He threw seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits and one walk on route to a Yankees' 1-0 victory. It was the turning point of the series which allowed the Bombers to come back from the 2-0 series deficit.
Keuchel pitched game two of the ALDS against the Red Sox, allowing just one run on three hits through 5.2 innings. He owns a 0.96 ERA in three career postseason starts.
Luis Severino will square off against Justin Verlander in game two Saturday evening. After an abysmal Wild Card Game start in which he didn't make it out of the first inning, Sevy was back to the dominate ace we had seen all season. In game four against Cleveland, he went seven innings allowing three runs while striking out nine in the 7-3 win.
Verlander has been unhittable since joining the Astros on August 31, posting a 1.06 ERA in five starts to close out the year. He started game one of the ALDS against Boston, allowing two runs on six hits across six innings.
CC Sabathia will be on the mound when the series shifts back to New York for game three Monday night. The big man looked like the CC of old in the decisive game five victory over Cleveland. He pitched just 4.1 innings, but allowed just two runs while striking out nine. He also made a pretty nice play in the field after a bunt attempt forced him to chase down the popup.
Sonny Gray is scheduled for game four on Tuesday, 12 days after his last start. He pitched game one of the ALDS, lasting just 3.1 innings while giving up three runs on three hits and four walks.
