Chicago White Sox 3 -- New York Yankees 5
On this special day for the manager of the dynasty years of the Yankees, the Yankees continue the winning ways. Hiroki Kuroda started today's game and would give up the hits but rarely the big hit. A pair of doubles in the second inning but the Yankees in an early hole but he would bounce back in the inning and struck out the side. He would retire the next nine of 11 batters to come the plate and the Yankees would strike back for their veteran starter. In the second inning, White Sox starter Scott Carroll received no favors from his defense. After a walk, second baseman Carlos Sanchez would boot the ball for an error. Martin Prado would bunt to reach base as Jose Abreu could not make the throw to Carroll covering first to load the bases with no one out. The Yankees should score more runs but a double play would be the only play to plate a run, tying the game. In the fourth inning, the Yankees would get the lead, albeit with some questionable baserunning. Brian McCann seems to have a hidden talent of finding spots to put pop up fly balls. Today, he hit a fly ball to left field where Alejandro De Aza would be affected by the sun and the ball would drop in for a leadoff double. Mark Teixeira would walk but the first mental lapse on the bases involved the Yankees first baseman. Carlos Beltran hit a single to right but Teixeira ran with his head down, assuming McCann would score on the play. Teixeira would be out between second and third while Beltran advanced to second on the mistake. Martin Prado would get his second hit of the day with a double to left field and scored two runs. He would be caught off the bases on a ground ball back to the pitcher for the second miscue on the bases for the Yankees. The Yankees would reload the base in the inning but the two runs by Martin Prado were all the Yankees plated. The Chicago White Sox would score one in the top of the fifth inning but he would bounce back from this with a perfect sixth inning. In six innings, Hiroki Kuroda allowed two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six. Carlos Beltran, fresh from a cortisone shot in his elbow so he may return to the lineup, would have his second hit of the day and it would be an insurance run that the Yankees could use. His 14th home run of the season gave the Yankees a two-run lead. Martin Prado would hit his third hit of the day and it was his second double of the day. He would advance on a ground out and score the Yankees fifth run on a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Yankees five runs on the day. Today was the first time the Yankees scored at least five runs since August 8. Shawn Kelley would give up a pair of hits and a run in his appearance but he got a pair of outs before Dellin Betances was called on in the seventh inning. It took Betances just four pitches to finish off the inning in what is arguably the save situation and keep the now two-run lead. Adam Warren would pitch a scoreless eighth inning and David Robertson would put the tying run at the plate but a pair of strikeouts would be important in his 34th save of the season. The Yankees are currently on a three-game winning streak.
