Yankees game 33 preview (5/12/16)
Series win duties fall to Nathan Eovaldi (2-2, 4.78 ERA) as he takes on former Yankee Ian Kennedy (4-2, 2.13 ERA) in the finale. Eovaldi is coming off an impressive eight inning, two run outing against the Red Sox. It was a great start in spite of the loss, as his fastball reached 100 multiple times and he seemed to finally find his stride. In his only career start against KC, last May, his offense gave him an 11-0 lead in the first two innings. He went seven innings and gave up one earned run in the win. Kennedy shutout the Indians across seven innings and allowed four hits in his last start. He was drafted by the Yanks with the 21st overall pick back in 2006, and didn't quite deliver. He went 1-4 with a 6.03 ERA in 14 games over three years. The last time he saw the Yanks was back in 2013 with the Padres, when he earned the win by throwing 5.2 innings and giving up two runs. This is his first time pitching in Yankee Stadium as a visitor. Tidbits: Omar Infante is 3-6 lifetime against Eovaldi. In the AL, Kennedy ranks seventh in ERA, 10th in batting average against (.209) and 11th in WHIP (1.08.) Carlos Beltran is one homer away from 400, and becoming just the fourth switch hitter to reach 400. 7:05 pm on YES.
