Yankees Player of the Week: June 3-June 9

Brett Gardner had his best week of the season by hitting .520, with 1 HR, and 6 RBI's. In a week that saw the Yankees sweep the Cleveland Indians, and take 3 out of 4 from the Seattle Mariners, the New York Yankees player of the week is Brett Gardner. Gardy has been flying under the radar for most of the season while putting together a career season. Over the last 7 days, Gardner hit a ridiculous .520, knocking out 13 hits in 25 at-bats. He drive in 6 runs, while scoring 5 runs himself. His OPS for the weeks was a solid 1.396. According to ESPN, Gardner is projected to hit 15 home runs this season, with 69 RBI's, and 172 hits. If these projections hold up, he will shatter his previous career high's of 7 home runs, 132 hits, and 47 RBI's. Gardner had a few big games during the week, starting with a 2-for-3 performance with a 3-run home run in the Yankees 6-4 win. He ended the week last night with a 4-for-5 performance, with a double, an RBI, and a stolen base. For the Yankees to continue winning, the Yankees need for Gardner to stay healthy, and to continue contributing with power and speed. His ability to ignite a rally is critical if the Yankees want to contend and have a shot at October baseball. Honorable Mention:
