The 25-year-old appeared in six games for the Yankees this season, three of which were starts. In starts against the A's, Rangers and White Sox, Cessa posted a 0-3 record with a 5.93 ERA. Mainly used as a starter in Triple-A, Cessa posted a 4-6 record with a 3.80 ERA. With Michael Pineda undergoing Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, the Yankees have a starting rotation spot to fill. Cessa will look to prove that he is capable of filling the void as the team battles for a playoff spot. In a corresponding move, the Yankees optioned right-hander Bryan Mitchell to Triple-A. The 25-year-old started last night's series opener, allowing two runs (one earned) through five innings of work. The Yankees continue their three-game series against the Twins at Target Field in Minnesota. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 EST.
