After the Yankees reinstated him from the 60-day disabled list, reliever Sergio Santos elected free agency. After being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 32-year old made two appearances with the Yankees before an elbow injury forced him to land on the disabled list for the remainder of the season. The former first-round pick made 14 total appearances between the two clubs, posting a 4.96 ERA in 16.1 innings of work. The team also activated right-handed pitcher Diego Moreno off the 60-day disabled list on Monday, and outrighted him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. Moreno also saw limited time with the big league club before an elbow injury derailed his season, posting a 1-0 record with a 5.23 in four appearances. The 28-year-old did have some success at the Triple-A level this season, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.18 ERA in 26 appearances (four starts). With the 2015 season officially over, more moves like these are expected throughout baseball over the next few weeks. As the Rule 5 draft approaches, the Yankees will need to clear room on their 40-man roster to allow them to protect some of their young players who they don't want to lose via the draft.
