Yankees Spring Training Game 26: Ackley, Teixeira fuel Yankees victory
Mark Teixeira starts the rally and Dustin Ackley completes it with a go-ahead, two-run double.
Detroit Tigers 2 – New York Yankees 3
The Detroit Tigers paid a visit to the Yankees and a late game comeback turned it around for the Yankees.
Formerly a part of the Tigers organization, Luis Cessa started tonight's game and pitched masterfully. In three innings, Luis Cessa went three innings, allowing no runs on one hit while walking one and striking out four. The Tigers' Buck Farmer matched Cessa with three scoreless innings of his own as the starting pitchers were not factoring into tonight's decision.
Johnny Barbato and Aroldis Chapman contributed a pair of scoreless innings as the game remained at a scoreless tie until the sixth inning.
In the sixth inning, Nick Goody got the first out before second baseman Ian Kinsler and outfielder Justin Upton went back-to-back with solo home runs to put the Tigers ahead by two.
The Yankees got on the board in the seventh inning when Mark Teixeira led off with a solo home run. Chasen Shreve and Diego Moreno put in a pair of scoreless innings to give the Yankees a chance at the comeback and they did just that.
With two outs in the eighth inning, Juan Silva and Carlos Corporan extended the inning with a pair of singles against reliever Adam Ravenelle. Dustin Ackley came through with the big hit when he hit a double to left field, scoring Silva and Corporan to change the 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead.
Diego Moreno added a second scoreless inning of work to finish off tonight's comeback victory.
Win – Diego Moreno
Loss – Adam Ravenelle
