Scouting Report

Signed for just $10,000 out of the Dominican Republic in February 2022, Lagrange began pushing his fastball into the upper 90s just four months later in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. After he topped the Rookie-level Florida Complex with 63 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings during his 2023 U.S. debut, he missed most of the next season with back inflammation and couldn't throw strikes when he took the mound. But he bounced back in a big way last year, finishing third in the Minors in strikeouts (168 in 120 innings) and K percentage (33 percent) while reaching Double-A. Lagrange stands out most with a fastball that parks at 97-99 mph and peaks at 103 with carry and armside run. But he's also capable of missing bats with three secondary pitches that can be devastating at times. He relies heavily on a sweeping mid-80s slider, though his upper-80s cutter and low-90s changeup with depth and fade actually were more effective in 2025. Lagrange improved his fastball command as well as his overall control last season, though his walk rate jumped from 7 percent in High-A to 15 percent in Double-A. He's 6-foot-7 but doesn't create notable extension in his upright delivery, and he has such a quick arm and long limbs that he doesn't always keep them in sync. He has the stuff to pitch in the front of a rotation if he can continue to add polish.

FanGraphs Report

Lagrange is one of several huge-framed young pitchers in this system, and he's the one who has the nastiest present stuff. He's among the hardest throwers in the entire org (half a tick behind Jonathan Loáisiga) and some of his 80-84 mph curveballs have absurd two-plane break. Lagrange's fastball/curveball combo is already good enough to play toward the back of a bullpen, where he's got a good chance of ending up because of mechanical inconsistency. It's common for young pitchers of this size to have command issues, and Lagrange should be given as much time as possible to develop a deeper repertoire and better control. He and the Yankees have time, as Lagrange's default 40-man timeline puts him on track for a 2027 debut. With two dynamic pitches on board, the middle of Lagrange's outcomes look like Hunter Harvey or Bryan Abreu. If he develops better feel for and control of his body, he stands a chance to be an impact starter.
