Scouting Report
Kilby was one of the more polished hitters in the 2025 high school class, though he also got overshadowed in a deep crop of shortstops by players more likely to remain at the position. He fared well against quality pitching on the showcase circuit before leading Newnan (Ga.) HS to the Georgia state 5-A championship last spring, then signed for an over-slot $2,797,500 as a supplemental first-round pick. The Yankees sent him straight to Single-A, where he hit .353 with 16 steals and more walks (13) than strikeouts (11) in 18 games. Kilby employs a quick and relatively compact left-handed stroke that stays in the hitting zone for a long time. He makes advanced swing decisions, rarely misses fastballs and focuses on driving balls from gap to gap. While he stands out most with his hitting ability, he also has the bat speed and projectable strength to develop plus raw power. Add in plus speed and an aggressive nature on the basepaths, and Kilby has 20-20 potential. The only real question is where he winds up on the diamond because he had shoulder issues early in his high school and has a funky arm action that prevents him from making all the throws at shortstop. He'll stay there for now but profiles better at second base or center field, and he could be a solid defender at either spot.
