Scouting Report

Cohen spent five years at George Washington and was the Colonials' best starter in the final three before signing for $20,000 as a nondrafted free agent in 2022. Since missing the first half of the 2024 season with a back strain, he has been one of the most unhittable relievers in the Minors during the past two years, logging a 1.62 ERA and .155 opponent average. Though the Yankees declined to protect him on their 40-man roster this offseason, he slipped through the Rule 5 Draft and will compete for a big league bullpen job in 2026. Cohen's money pitch is a tight mid-80s slider that hitters can't lay off or catch up to when it ventures into the strike zone. His fastball is fairly ordinary, ranging from 92-94 mph and reaching 96 with nice carry at times but also below-average command that can make it vulnerable. His mid-80s changeup with fade and sink can be a solid offering at it's best. Cohen hides the ball well with an up-tempo, upright delivery with a high leg kick. While his mechanics provide deception, they also hamper his control and have resulted in a 12 percent walk rate in pro ball. He profiles more as a middle reliever than a high-leverage option.
