Jeter to DL?

Jeter to DL?

Scott Reinen··3 min read

SI's Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees are "strongly considering" placing Derek Jeter (calf) on the DL.

As they should be. Jeter suffered a Grade 1 calf strain on Monday night against the Indians and is likely going to need more than a week of rest. The Yankees don't want to be short a player in National League ballparks when the interleague schedule fires back up this weekend. Jeter, 36, is sitting on 2,994 career hits.

Update: 4:26

The Yankees won't make a decision about Derek Jeter's status until he meets with the team doctor around 6 p.m. ET.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Jeter admitted that he will need to miss a week, but he is apparently concerned about missing another week for no reason. He's undoubtedly doing some lobbying right now, so we'll see if it makes a difference. Either way, look for infielder Ramiro Pena to be added to the active roster.
