Choi, a South Korean native, was selected in the 2015 Rule 5 Draft by the Angels. He made their opening day roster, but was sent down in May. After spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons bouncing between the majors and minors, he was released and signed a minor league deal with the Yankees. In 56 games with the RailRiders this season, Choi has a slashline of .289/.371/.505 with eight homers. He has spent the majority of his career at first base, but can also play the corner outfield positions.
This is Carter's second time being designated for assignment in two weeks. Back on June 24th, the struggling first baseman was DFAed only to be back in the Bronx just nine days later when Tyler Austin hit the DL. In 61 games this year, he hit .201 with eight homers and 76 strikeouts. It remains to be seen whether he will stay with the team, but he did accept an outright to Triple-A the last time around.
