Report: Yankees sign RHP Anthony Swarzak to minors deal
The Yankees added veteran RHP Anthony Swarzak today, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. If Swarzak makes the big league club out of spring training, he'll earn $750K. Swarzak, 30, appeared in 10 games for the Indians in 2015, posting a 3.38 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 13.1 innings. He was released by Cleveland in June, and then opted to sign with the Doosan Bears in Korea. He went 5-7 with a 5.56 ERA over 20 games for the rest of 2015. Swarzak was drafted by the Twins in the second round of the 2004 draft. He spent parts of five seasons with Minnesota, with his best year coming in '13 when he went 3-2 with a 2.91 ERA in 48 appearances, while compiling a 1.15 WHIP. This appears to be a low-risk, high reward signing for the Yankees who already have pretty good depth in the bullpen. With his cheap price tag, GM Brian Cashman figures Swarzak deserves at least a look in spring training.
Anthony swarzak agrees to Yankees deal. 750K in majors.
